"Something for Back To School"

Writer's picture: John ReidJohn Reid

The classic teacher treats we all think of every year has got to be the apple. Fun fact: that concept started in Europe in the 1700s, before teachers were paid money! Families would gift baskets of apples to teachers in exchange for the education of their children! #themoreyouknow

Below, you can find an updated teacher treat: Delicious apple bread, all in the shape of Something!

Apple Bread

1/2 cup applesauce

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups peeled diced apples

Mix as listed, giving plenty of time for the ingredients to really blend.

This batter starts out looking too dry, but give it a minute or two and you'll see it come together.

Generously grease and flour molds then spoon in the (thick) batter, dragging into all the letters. Bake at 350°F for 30 min. or until a toothpick comes out dry. Dust cooled cake with powdered sugar.
